Technical Assistance
The Land Conservation Department (LCD) staff works with landowners on protection strategies that best meet the landowners conservation and financial needs. LCD staff is available to assist landowners to:
- Conduct resource inventories, including soils, drainage, topography, water resources, land use, and vegetation through on-site visits or map interpretations.
- Provide engineering and designs for construction projects, including site surveys, soil profile analysis, runoff and flow calculations, and the preparation of construction drawings.
- Supervise the installation of conservation practices.
- Administer local regulations aimed to prevent water pollution from construction site erosion, urban stormwater runoff, and manure storage facilities.
Financial Assistance (Cost-Sharing)
The LCD administers cost-share programs that provide funds to landowners who install conservation or best management practices (BMP). A Best Management Practice is a method that has been determined to be the most effective, practical means of preventing or reducing pollution from nonpoint sources. Financial assistance may be available for installing best management practices through local, state, or federal grant sources. LCD staff can assist in researching available funds.
