  • 3_March PSA_Pet Waste

During precipitation events (and snow melt!), pet waste left on lawns, sidewalks, trails, and beaches washes into storm drains and water bodies. The bacteria, parasites, and viruses in pet waste ends up in streams and lakes where they can harm human health and the environment.

When not correctly disposed of, common household products that may be corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive can get into our waterways. To avoid the human health and environmental risks associated with household hazardous wastes, always monitor the use, storage, and disposal of products with potentially dangerous substances.

  • 5_May PSA 1_Spring Fertilizer

Keep mowing & Maintaining - Test your soil to see if it needs it - Use organic phosphorus -free; Don't put in grass swales or ditches -Don't put on driveways, sidewalks, or roads - Don't over fertilize

  • 5_May PSA 2_Grass clipping

Grass clippings contain phosphorus, the nutrient that turns our lakes and rivers green with algae. Excess nutrients entering storm drains can even increase toxic algal blooms. For a healthy lawn and cleaner waters this summer, follow these tips: 1. Mow often, 2. Don't bag, 3. Sweep it up

  • 6_June PSA 1_Landscaping

Help water soak into the ground faster and decrease erosion. Include native plants, use mulch or stone around plants, aerate your lawn

  • 6_June PSA 2_Fireworks

Sweep up after Fourth of July festivities!

  • 7_July PSA 1_Vehicle Washing

Washing one vehicle may not seem like an issue, but collective residential car washing can add up to a big problem for local water bodies. If you choose to wash your vehicle at home, wash on an area that absorbs water, like gravel or grass. This can filter dirty wash water before it enters groundwater, storm drains, or rivers. Be sure to use biodegradable, phosphate-free, water- based cleaners and always empty wash buckets into sinks or toilets.

Did you know storm drains go directly into our waterways without being filtered?
